Following are the various steps to work with Tagmate for implementation and migration.

1. How to Set up UA(Universal Analytics) Implementation Project?

When you land on Tagmate URL, click the Sign in with Google option and select the account that you want to use. Be sure that the account you are using is the same one that is connected with your Google Tag Manager (GTM) and Google Analytics (GA).

On the Homepage, you will have the three modules that are –

  • a. Universal Analytics – Implementation
  • b. Google Analytics – Implementation
  • c. UA to GA – Migration

Now, as your purpose is to track the Universal Analytics event, click on the 1st option. Click on Start Project.

You will be directed to Tagmate Dashboard. On the left navigation menu, you can see the Project Name. When you are logging in for the first time, you will see the Project Not Selected option. Otherwise, you will see the default project name that you created earlier.

Click on the Project Name to add your first project and you will be getting the list of your projects added to the screen. You may be seeing a blank screen with no project has been added yet message if you are using it for the first time. If you are an existing user, you will notice all your projects being listed on the screen.

You can either switch between the projects or can add a new project. Your project here refers to the website that you want to track in Google Analytics.

Click on Add New to proceed. A form will open up. You need to fill in the UA implementation project details. The first step is to fill in the primary details. Add the project name to identify the tracking website that you like to work with. The target platform selected is the webpage by default that will run for both web and mobile pages on your website. Add your Industry type based on your pitch. These all are the compulsory parameters to be filled.

The next step is to provide your account details, where you want to configure your UA events. As you have already connected with your GTM account, you will see a list of Tag Manager accounts in the dropdown list. Select the appropriate Tag Manager account or if you want to create a new account for Tag Manager select Create New option, which will land on the Google Tag Manager UI screen, where you can create the account in the container name and workspace. Once done, click on create account option.

Return to your Tagmate UI and click the refresh icon at the edge of a dropdown list. After selecting a tag manager account, you can see the container option and also a list of containers that are connected with the selected Tag Manager account.

Select the specific container name or create a new container by clicking on Create New option. You can also have the workspace option and will find the list of workspaces connected with the container. Select the workspace that you opt for and you are done with the configuration.

The last step is to fill in the details of the platform identifier. Go to destination and select Google Analytics. Enter your tracking ID (Unique Identifier of your UA). It collects the data of your website and can easily find the ID from Google Analytics UI.

After you have done filling in all your details, the next step is to improve your data collection. It is optional but better to add your custom details for advanced analysis and remarketing use cases. You can deselect it and opt-out. It will auto-configure the details created in UA property to the Tagmate project. Select the variables that you want to track like client ID, User ID, timestamp, session ID, etc. You can input the custom dimensions index by checking your UA property settings.

Click on Know more to understand the process and fetch the index from Google Analytics UI. Click on Create button. You will get a congratulation message saying that your implementation is successful in Tagmate.

Close the pop-up message and you will be redirected to the dashboard to start implementing the prebuilt templates.

2. How to Set up GA Implementation Project?

Go to the Tagmate landing page and select the Sign in with Google option. Select the account that you want to use. Be sure that the account is the same as your GA account and GTM account.

As said earlier you will be having three modules, UA implementation, GA implementation and UA to GA4 migration. Select the second option as you want to track your GA4 event.

Follow the steps mentioned in UA Implementation Project but instead of UA details, you need to fill in the GA4 implementation details and configure your GA4 events.

Lastly, you need to fill in the platform identifiers for the destination platform GA4. You have to mention the measurement ID which is the unique identifier of the GA4 property that will collect all the data of your website. You can easily find the ID from your GA4 UI Admin Panel under the properties section and Data streams.

Once done, you will be seeing a module, Improve your Data Collection. It is an optional step but will be better to add your custom details for advanced analysis and remarketing use cases. You can even deselect and opt-out.

It will auto-configure the custom dimensions created in your GA4 property with the Tagmate project. Select the variables that you want to track. Input the dimensions by checking your GA4 property settings.

Click on Know more to understand the process and fetch the index from Google Analytics UI. Click on Create option. You will be notified with a congratulatory message which says your GA4 implementation is successfully created in your Tagmate.
